does anyone know if this back rest mod will work with softail hard bags that swing forward to open? When I intalled the bags I had to remove the chrome seat rail so the lid of the bag would not hit and open all the way. anyone know ?????

Reviving an old thread, will the stock pillion pad still work with the rail and backrest installed? Hard to tell whether it does/doesnt, seems close. I'm not interested in running like that often, but I do use the pad as a base to put a sissy bar bag on for trips.

Thx.

It should work. Since the backrest sits IN FRONT of the railing, I see no reason for it not to work. I have not trried it, and can't since I sold the pillion, But since the original railing works with the pillion, I can't imagine it not working with the new rail and pad.

I have the tall rail on my stock seat; the pillion fits, but it is pretty darn tight. I suppose I could remove the cover from the pillion and trim some padding, but I am okay with the snug fit.

I have the rail and tall backrest on my 05 deluxe. Very comfy and the pillon pad fits just fine.

Thanks guys. Rail is ordered, pad is on it's way from Ebay. If anyone else is looking, there is a guy with 9 New Old Stock low pads, with good feedback (100%). Well, he's got 8 now, $175+shipping. Overpriced, yes, but cheapest on E-bay I could find. Shipped same day. I ordered the rail from Chicago HD for $118. Special order, but should have it in < 2 weeks. Thanks all!

Congrats plutnicki. Pricey yes, but the set-up does look better than the aftermarket backrests for the Deluxes, preserving the retro look.
