I would venture a guess that you'll be removing the guts from the tank prior to sending it for paint? After you remove the top plate from the tank this is what you'll see.

The clamp on the clear plastic line will have to be cut and it runs down to the quick connect on the bottom left side of the tank. Once you remove the line you can then remove the quick connect fitting, break it loose with a wrench (spanner?) and it'll come out easily,(after all the gas has been drained) just remember that you'll need a new clamp when you put it back together.
I used the clamp from Harley, it was under a buck and I didn't want to risk having a hose clamp coming loose inside the tank. There is a little trick to getting the fuel pump out of the tank, I have a video showing how it's done at home that I can post later (I'm at work) if you're interested, I know it would have saved me some time and head scratching. I didn't find the service manual explained it well enough.

Thanks RABBIT that would be useful. Its the clamps that bother me as im a bit short on mechanical style tools i expect there is a crimping tool or something to put them back on.
Just bidded on e-bay for a manual to help me PS whats a "quick connect"

I'll post the video tonight, as for the clamp I just used a pair of sidecutter pliers to cut it off and to crimp it back on, you just have to be careful not to damage the line.
The quick connect, yes, if you look under your tank on the left side you will see a fitting threaded into the tank with a chrome ring/collar on it. As ronyd had said you need to purge the high pressure fuel line and that fitting is where the fuel line from the throttle body attaches to the tank. Once you purge the tank, you push up on the collar on the fitting and the fuel line simply pulls out.
