My 96 Softail Springer has 44,000 total miles and a Zipper 80/80 kit installed with about 4000 miles on that. I get 48 bar hopping, and have gotten up to 52 on trips running 55-70 mph with the wife on back.

190-200 miles before I have to hit reserve.

I guess I haven't been paying too much attention - Anything is better than the 10-12 mpg that the truck gets.........

I have a 08 Deluxe with Rush Slip Ons,Air is done,P\C V. 32000 miles on it. I just went on a 4 day trip(2000 miles) I always cruise at 75. The week before we went, I toke my bike to get tuned on a dyno. On my trip I had my bags full and my wife on the back. I always use premium gas. “I am getting 56 MPH“

Son and I have had 4 bikes since 07... 3 Softail, and 1 touring..

All the softails have averaged 38-41 when new..
39-42 after 5K on them.
40-43 after 10k on them
42-46 after stg1 and cams..

Normal is 43-44 in town and 45-46 highway, and thats two up 95% of the time.

Best I've ever got was 47 on one tank so I can't say it averages that.

Sons new Street glide with Stg1 and cams got 42-45 till around 5-6K miles and since then he gets 44-50 depending on where and how he rides..

20 mpg, IMO something it definitely wrong. As in really Wrong..

NOOO again IMO a stock 96er,, even a Stg1 one bike should average 41-42 under normal riding...

someone claiming 45-50 average is way above the norm on a 96.

Pending on where and how U ride in town stock 96, 38-39 mpg is not too far off as it will/should get better as the miles rolls on...

syn oils will help a little as will any motor mods U do.
