RE: Prepaid service plan?
Yes, I have purchased such a plan from my dealer.
Is it worth it? Yes and No.
How much do you ride in a year / season? That and how much time do you have on your hands will determine if it is worth while to you.
I ride the pants off my bikes during the season so the dealer is losing money on me. But he makes it up on all the owners who don't ride more than 2500 to 3500 miles a year.
I work long hours and do most of my riding in the evenings (we get 23 hours of daylight in the summer). About once a month my bikes need a scheduled maintenance. I would rather spend my time riding than wrenching so I paid the man and take full advantage of the program.
Your mileage may vary.

RE: Prepaid service plan?
mine was 15,000 miles. I did buy it in 03 for my 100th Anniversary Heritage Classic. Within 3 years its over. I now have almost 17,000 on it and to me it was worth it. didnt have to screw around with it, just make tha appointment, bring it in, wait for it, get the slip and pff I went. Now I am doing as much of the service myself.

RE: Prepaid service plan?
Based on your annual mileage, the plan may or may not make economic sense. Do the arithmetic and see. One caution: do not add the cost of the service plan onto your bike loan! If you do, you had better include the added interest in your calculations! And while you are at it, add in the interest you would lose if you did not invest the $800 on your own.
The standard rule of thumb for deciding whether to purchase these "plans", whether they are for a bike or a microwave, is not to buy them if you can afford to pay the potentional service or repair costs when they happen. You are really buying insurance, and unless you absolutely need it, don't do it. Put the $800 into a money market fund and pay for the service as it is needed. That way you get the interest, not the seller. However, in this case, since it is for service and not repairs, you can pretty quickly figure out whether you are saving money with the plan (remember to add that interest cost, whether loan interest or lost interest on the $800). If you are, by all means go for it.
