I rented a bike just like yours, except it stated out as a Heritage Softail, from Kendall at Hula Hogs in Maui to do the Iron Butt Island Style. It was Kendalls own personal bike. Ape hangers and Samsom pipes, no problem. 300 miles right around the island and I loved it. 50 odd bikes so not much chance to try counter steering though

you might also be feeling the effects of the fatter front tire...
the first thing i noticed when i got mine was the slow steering....
you may also want to play with the tire pressure a bit.... I'm at 38 psi....

No, it's the bars.

The front tyre is no wider than my Fatboy's and certainly narrower than my Triumph Rocket 111's.

Once again I say none of the bikes you are comparing to have springer front ends.&nbsp\\; Seems an obvious difference

Thanks for your comment.
IMHO it's still the bars. I had little narrow bars on my Sportster and had a similar problem.
I think the Springer front end has all kinds of other issues but it's unlikely to affect counter steering.
But I could be wrong, certainly wouldn't be the first time.

It's the springer front end. The Vertical axis of steer is 4 inches Behind the Horizontal axis of the wheel being turned. Feels funny at first. The mini apes get some getting used to, but I rode a "76 Super Glide with 16" apes before. The springer is just a different set up that has it's own learning curve.
