help with costs
ok so here my problem..
 \\;
im 18 years old and just started a job.
 \\;
i get my motorcycle license in about 3 months (after taking safety class)
 \\;
the bike that i have is a 92' heritage softail classic that my grandfather gave to me after he passed.
 \\;
this bike hasnt been ridden for about 3 years so what i wanted to know is.. what all do i need to have serviced. i want it to be fully inspected tires changed, oil changed, the whole shabang..
 \\;
can someone give me a list and tell me a figure of how much that would cost me total?
 \\;
thanks guys

RE: help with costs
maybe check the service book , contact the dealer that had been servicing it previously , and ask him.... my guess is that if it hasn\\;t been riden for 3 yrs then it will need to be trailored . \\; depending on storage may affect what needs to be checked/serviced.

RE: help with costs
I know a lot of member here do their own maintenance, so some would tell you to buy a service manual and do everything yourself. \\; However, if you have limited to no experience, I'd trust none other than a pro for this round of maintenance, just to make sure no steps are skipped and that you have a safe bike that is properly serviced. After that you could pick up a manual and do the work yourself. Just my opinion, Im not saying its correct...

RE: help with costs
You had a very thoughtful g-pa there. I have a grandaughter, maybe I'll do \\;the same for if I haven't worn the Fatty out. Yah 3 years in storage is hard on a hog. Hopefully the tank was full with a fuel stabilizer. Empty they tend to get condensation and rust. The carbs may be gummed up too. If the tank rusted they can be cleaned and lined for around $200. You don't necessarily need a dealer but you should get it to a good motorcycle mech. Actually, avoid the dealer cause they cost a lot.
Tires will be around $300 installed. Oil change with filter \\;about $50. Who knows what else but be prepared to spend $1000. Anything less is a bonus.
Good luck and ride safe.
