Miles on OEM FX front tire?
Hello, I'm new to the forum. Anyway, I have an 04 Softail standard (FX fork, NARROW front tire) and it looks like I have pretty good tread at 10,000 miles. The 64,000 dollar question, however, is at what point are these tires pretty much cashed? I've heard estimates all the way from 6,000 to 15,000 miles. Anyonw have any thoughts? I'm religious about keeping both tires inflated, checking them before each ride, but occasionally, when I'm zipping along at 80 plus, I wonder. . . .
Thanks a lot

RE: Miles on OEM FX front tire?
There were some posts on tires just a few days ago. Some folks say they got 15,000 on a set with a Fatboy or Heritage. Others say 6000. I imagine that is mostly due to riding style. I think if the tread is still good and there are no signs of dry rot or cracking on the side walls and it doesn't wobble or vibrate you are probably OK. Look back about 2 days in the softail forum for the posts. What concerns me more is the inner tube wear and stress, unless you are running tubeless tires.

I had less than 10,000 on my front, but replaced it because the rubber looked really bad - all cracked and crappy looking.
It was only a year old too......[:@]
Changed for a Metzeler ME880 which completely transformed the handling. No more tramlining on road markings, road repairs and so on.
It's a completely new bike for the price of a non-OEM tire....
Same on the back, and both stick to the road much better in the wet.
Some folks like the hard compound on the OEM Dunlop, but it's Metzelers for me from now on.
