Is oil temp 260f too hot?
Just installed a dip stick temp gauge, stuck in the traffic for 10 mins this afternoon, outside temperature 80f, traffic wasn't completely stopped but moving slowly, temperature hits 260f, motor oil starts breaking down at around 260f makes me worry. I don't need an oil change yet, I use Amsoil on my Sportster, it seems to run a bit cooler. I know this big twin runs hotter, is it a bit hot for weather like today? I am just curious.

mine ran that hot. I installed the IEDs and had synthetic installed at my 1k yesterday. Im in phoenix it was 112 out side. So you can only imagine how hot the asphalt is. \\; On the ride home at speeds between 40-45 sitting at lights my guage was 230. I must say these IEDs and now the synthetic are helping a lot.

You could feel the heat coming off of it.

Maybe your new gauge is wrong.I have \\;seen quality gauges be wrong from the factory. \\;\\\\\\;That seems awfully hot. Engine managment should of helped with the heat better that that.

If gauge is right \\;\\\\\\;I would change oil soon. That seems pretty hot to me.

IED. Inline enrichment device. Made for the 07 and 08 bikes with O2 exhaust sensors. They simply plug into the O2 lines and fake the ecm into changing the air/fuel mix to a richer setting. Easy $70 fix for the lean condition of the new bikes. Nightrider.com has them. It is a pretty cool website for the Harley.
