06 is the open loop efi system. No O2 sensors. 07 and 08 bikes are closed loop efi. From idle to about 50% throttle the bikes run in closed loop at 14.7 to1 air/fuel mix. The IED and XiED change the a/f mix from idle to about 50% throttle to 14.2 to or 13.8 to 1. From 50% throttle to wide open the bike goes into open loop mode which is where most plug in tuners take over, such as the Vance and Hines fuel pak. I personally believe the best tuner for any harley is the SERT but I didnt want to spend $400 + for the tuner and then another $250 or so for a dyno.

If your bike is running over 250 I think you need to do something, anything to get the temps down.
At 250 the oil additives start going bye-bye at a much faster rate, about double, above 260 they actually start going away even faster. Dyno oils themselves start going away at temps above 275. Synthetics like Amsoil, Mobil 1, and even HD own Syn 3 can handle the temps better and transfer more heat away from the engine. But at temps over 250 their additives, being exactly the as the ones used in Dyno oils start going away at exactly the same rate as those in the Dyno oils. The oil itself just don't start breaking down until the temps go over 300 or so.

Hi Frank... long time no `see` - you've got a PM.
&nbsp\\;
Four of us went for a ride today. Ambient temps were between 85 and 105 degrees. On open road riding, the temps were between 220 - 240, but once we hit stop and go traffic the temps climbed between 250 and a high of 274. I have M1 synthetic in all three holes, and just replaced my PC III with a ThunderMax which helped considerably. Previously, it wasn't uncommon on hot days in traffic to see 270-290, and comparing temps along the way with my buddy on his `05 Fatboy mine were always 10-30 degrees hotter at any given point.
&nbsp\\;
Today we compared temps quite often, and mine was lower than his nearly all day, with the exception of real heavy traffic where mine was about 15 degrees warmer.
&nbsp\\;
Here in Southern California the air and traffic can get them really hot. I bought an oil cooler and will be installing it soon, so that the oil stays as cool as possible while running, and cools off as quickly as possible between stops.
&nbsp\\;
Roger

My bike usually runs between 210 and 230.&nbsp\\; Can't speak for the XIEDs but I have the IEDs on a stock bike and have noticed little if any difference in oil temp.&nbsp\\; I ride with a guy with an 08 Ultra and my wife has an 08 Deluxe.&nbsp\\; Temps run about the same.&nbsp\\; 5-8 degrees difference max and that could be attributable to other factors.
&nbsp\\;
I got stuck in&nbsp\\;traffic on a 90+ day last week and it took just a few minutes for my oil temp to rise from 230 to&nbsp\\;265 where it maxed out.&nbsp\\; Soon as I got rolling it dropped to normal.&nbsp\\; Call me a skeptic but I don't see how anything I could add&nbsp\\;to my&nbsp\\;HD would have a significant impact on those temps under those conditions.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;

Stick with synthetic and I think you'll be fine.&nbsp\\; I've seen mine go up to 260-270 in traffic when I was running dino oil.&nbsp\\; Changing to synthetic seemed to help some.&nbsp\\; Now I never see anything over 250.

I just took my Fatboy for a morning ride, went to a local ski mountain, base elevation 3,270ft, outside temp 75f. When I was at the top of the mountain, temp stayed at 210f which is pretty good. I am going to change oil tomorrow, Amsoil is my number 1 choice. By the way, this FI motor funs much better than my Sportster (carb model) climbing uphill, I bet the FI does a great job on A/F ratio.
