RE: oil
My current gameplan is:
 \\;
Mobile Vtwin 20-50 in crankcase \\;(takes high heat better) Don't know if its the best synthetic but it's pretty damn close and at $8.42 at Walmart I'm happy with it.
 \\;
Spectro 75-140 Six Speed GL-5 \\;in Tranny \\; (shifts smoother) \\; Any good 75-140 probably work just as well and alot cheaper. \\; Paid $20 for a quart (wow).
 \\;
HD Formula+ in primary (works fine)

RE: oil
There are almost as many opinions about oil in this forum as there are members. \\; In addition the same goes for when to change the \\;oil. \\; I went with Amsoil 20/50 MCV in all three holes at the 1K service. \\; As far as the bike really running cooler with synthetic, well I can't say I noticed. \\; At the time I switched I did not have a temp gauge. \\; The synthetics can run hotter before breaking down which is why I went that route. \\; \\;The hottest mine has run was 255 \\;on a roadtrip in 110+ degrees. \\; \\;Typcally Amsoil has to be ordered ( I ordered mine...5 qts for $60 otd). \\; \\;Mobil 1 and some of the other stuff can be purchased locally at most motorcycle shops for around $10 per qt. \\;
