2002 Fatboy Carbed 6K miles
Just like an opinion on the subject bike. Would it be an OK deal for $14.5k? Of course no warranty. How are the 2002 FB's? Any problems that were corrected in later years? The bike has a quick release windshield a passenger sissybar. Black and maroon color-good color combination. Saddlebags that look OK, nothing special. Stock on the carbs. Has a set of V&H that the salesman says are way too loud. Opinions? Thanks for the input.

I'm not ever sure of used values. They all seem to high when I buy, not high enough when I sell. You can check Kelly blue book, they have m/c values also. You need to feel comfortable with the deal yourself. I don't know of any problems in 02. The mirror change is the only physical difference I can think of after that year to my 03. They make small differences every year. That is very low mileage. If it is local to you and you are interested I would ask a local shop to give it a check out. The cost would be very slight compared to finding a problem. Most sellers would not have a problem with this. Hope this helps. I do LOVE my fatboy.

It just seems rediculous to pay that kind of money when you can get a new Heritage softail (not the classic) for the same money if I throw in the cost of a warranty for the 2002 (dealer says $1100 for two year warranty. Not sure I can even get a warranty on an 02. Looked at an 04 and could get a warranty for it.). I really don't understand how they can ask the money they do for the used bikes. The only reason I can think of is that there are guys like us that just have to have a Harley and will go to their credit limit and buy the used bike at that high number even though they know a new one is a better deal.
Is the wider tire on the '03 just the tire and not the wheel? What about the fact that it's carbed. Issues there?

The bike is with a dealer, so they say they look them over before they put them on the floor. Would you hesitate on the carbed model vs FI? Everything you hear is go with FI, but I've had many carbed bikes and I can't say that I notice that much difference. Warm up for sure, but other than that, not a big deal. A part of me say that simpler is better and I think a carb is simpler.

Price is not bad.
You could spend more on a new one but you would have to add on pipes windshield and the other accessories. you need to figure out what accessories you want with either bike when deciding which one is cheaper.
I wouldn't hesitate with the bike as far as mechanically. Ask for a service record.

I've put just over 15k on a Fat Boy that I bought new in 2002. No major issues with anything, no carb problems. I'd say that $14k is probably a fair price, especially with windshield, bags and pipes. V&H may or may not be a HP sapper, depending on the model and tuning.
