Default Gel Seat Pad?

The previous owner of my Softail told me to get a gel seat pad. The pad is just that, removable and fits on the Sundowner (and other) seats. Where do I get a gel seat pad?

Go to http://www.americanasoftseats.com/ They take off your seat cover and put the gel pad into the seat itself, then cover everything back up.

I found this company through another forum and it came highly recommended. They offer a pad for on top or an insert that you can have installed. This gel material is not a fluid gel pad like the others so it does not leak (if cut). The medical industry uses this material on wheelchairs now to prevent the handicapped from getting sores. I just ordered one of their inserts yesterday for my Fatboy and with the 10% off sale, shipping and all was only $61 and change. The upholstry shop down the road said that they would install it for $30. The gel is 1/2" thick and it comes with a 1/4" foam pad for over top.

Just be careful: I tried a gel pad and loved it for the first 30 minutes of each ride, THEN it created so much discomfort it felt like I had spikes being driven into my .....well, you get the idea.

It works great for some folks, but not for me. The Alaska sheepskin pad works well, but doesn't look so hot.

I actually find that a real firm seat works better for my buttocks. But nobody said I was normal.

I've heard and read some negative comments about the liquid gel pads and in fact my Harley parts guy was one of those people. They said that the liquid shifts away from the areas that need the cushion. My wife is a registered nurse and she said that the "Dry Polymer" cushions they put on wheelchairs in the Retirement homes make a BIG difference. My mother is in a wheelchair now so we got her one and she loves it.
