Default Help!!!!!!Help!!!Tranny oil vs. Primay oil

got tired of others doing simple oil changes on my bike so I'm doing this one myself. Problem is I am being told conflicting things regarding the tranny oil and Primary. a. can I put the tranny oil in the primary inspection cover [small hole]. if so then b. does the primary oil go in the dirby cover hole. I did the regular oil change and filter with no problems. Hurry as I am on my way for a ride to Vegas. riding hard and free JustICEk

a. tranny oil goes in the tranny. You pour it in the same hole you pull the dipstick out of to check the level. The tranny drain plug is between the shocks, assuming you have a softail.

b. Primary oil does go in the derby cover. You pour the oil in until you can see it at the bottom of the clutch plate. My 06 Fatboy takes 26 oz.

You may want to invest in a Service Manual. Mine has helped me a lot.

Have fun in Vegas.

Both the derby and inspection cover are where the primary lube is. Best way to fill is through derby so you can see when your full, should see the oil between the primary cover and the bottm of the clutch just below the 6 o'clock position of the derby cover hole.

The tranny fill is on the otherside of the bike where your clutch cable goes into, there is an hex head dipstick, this is wher your fill. The draing for tranny is inbetween your two shocks.

But One Of These And You Won't Have To Take Off The Derby Cover

http://www.corbin.com/accessories/ezpour.shtml

It's one of those things that is so simple it makes you want to scream... "Why hasn't this been done before?" With the Corbin EZ-Fill adding oil to your primary is simple, just remove the knurled plug from the inspection cover and pour. It looks great and works just as well (a hallmark of Corbin design).
Forged aluminum and triple plate chromed for a perfect fit and finish. Rubber o-ring creates a positive seal and secure fit of the chromed plug. Two models are available for a variety of Harley-Davidson models.

Softail Deuce

#HD-FLH-EZ-FILL

FLH / FLT models

Special Notes and InfoEZ-Fill primary inspection covers do not fit on Harley models with mid-controls like the standard Dyna-Glides. There is no hole for the shifter shaft.
On some models, it may be required to slightly bend the side-stand helper for clearance (that's the thing you hook your boot on to get the stand to swing out).
EZ-Fill primary inspection covers do not fit the 2007 models.
EZ-Fill primary inspection covers do not fit any after market shifters that are longer than stock shifters.
