how much noise should my rear brake make???
my bike (95 softail springer) has a high pitched squeel coming from the rear brake, I know the rear pads on disk brakes has to touch the rotor, but should I hear it? the pasds are stock HD pads, and were just changed 1 month ago. the pads that were on the bike were shot, there was almost no pad left. The front makes no noise, and the rotor is very cool after a ride, however the rear is warm, and it makes a noise until I use the brake, then it is silent. I was told there is no adjustment for the brakes, I have bleed it 3 times, with no improvement......what do i do???

RE: how much noise should my rear brake make???
My rear brakes were making a good loud "howl" sound. I have had this with cars and I took the pads off, cleaned the backers and applied a good coating of permatex brake quiet. They have been silent ever since. The stuff is about 6.00 a can and will last a long time. Its never caused me any problems before and the brakes have been quiet for several weeks now.
Most noise is actually from the backside of the pad vibrating on the caliper pistons when the brake is applied.

Mine has been doing that too. It is annoying but I doubt it hurts anything. I'm going to pull mine and see if maybe a metallic flake is sticking out a bit or something. It shouldnt be hard to fix. Just pull the pads and give them the once over.
