Default Garmin sat nav power supply

Hi All,

I'm a newbie (just joined) and wanted to tap into your knowledge.

I have an 07 Fatboy andwant to fit a Garmin. The cradle and RAM mount fits neatly between the handlebar risers but I need to know where to take the power & return from. Has anybody done this and would like to offer some advice. From a location point of viewIF the power & return could be taken from wiring on the underside of the speedo/ignition panel this would be neat. (I have taken pics of the wiring which I can forward if this is a remotely sensible solution)

All advice welcome -thanks in advance

I ran the power through the bars (was switching them out at the time). Then under the gas tank.

I ran power from a powerlet adapter that I mounted on the middle of the handlebar. I ran the wires for that down the forks a bit with some other wires and then under the tank and ultimately hooked it up to the accessory power adapter under the seat.

For my GPS, I installed a lighter socket under the seat, hard wired to the battery terminals, and ran the GPS wire under the tank and up to the bars from there. Very clean installation. I did order a supply cable that wasn't the springy one that comes with the unit. Made it alot easier to fit it next to the wiring harness under the tank. Don't remember where I got the cable from but they can be found online.

Thanks Guys,

Looks like 'under gas tank' wiring route is the favoured option picking up power and ground somewhere underseat.

Cool looking bike too

Thanks

Got mine running under my speedo no problem, then wired into the battery via a power supply I got from touratech, which I soldered to the clipped ends off a battery tender harness, changed the fuse to a 2 amp fuse, and I'm good to go. The only wiring I see is coming out the front of the speedo and around the h-bars.

Didn't I read a post a while back about this and the general consensis was to buy an apapter plug at wallyworld, then just run the power from your battery tender. ???
