Default Is this mileage about right...

Trying to see if my bike is running too rich. My mileage last time I filled up was right at 40 mpg. The only engine mods are S/E A/C, exhaust, and PCIII (dyno tuned).

I am getting some fuel smell in my oil, and just trying to diagnose the issue. Bike runs good, no change in performance or anything. The only black smokeis right when the bike is started and the engine isstill cold (whichI think is pretty normal). I do notice that sometimesatidle,I smell aslight fuel smell, but that could just be exhaust smell. I meanI am on amotorcycle, not inside a car.

Any ideas? This has been bothering me since I changed my oil about350 miles ago. Bike has 7000 miles, so the rings should be fine.Just don't want to screw anything up.

i get 40mpg, carb 03, stage 1. i think i'm too lean, plugs are fairly white. what color are your plugs? do you have baffles in your pipes? I think without baffles you have less back pressure and more unburned fuel can flow out (i read). maybe that's what you smell. just a guess, i don't know much.

Still have baffles in my pipes...no fuel leaks either. I've checked all over.

a certain amount of unburned fuel always exits with the exhaust flow. i didn't mean to imply a fuel leak. if your plugs are light tan color on the insulators, you are good. if they are brown, maybe a bit rich. black and oily looking, then definitely too rich (or a weak spark)

unfortunately I am out of town for a few weeks, so I can't check my plugs right now. Thanks for the help, the fuel smell in the oil is just bugging me.

Soulfish,

What kind of seat are you using and how does it compare confort wise to the stock seat?
