RE: rear fender clearcoat
I just had my rear fender clearcoated because of the same problem. The painter suggested either going solo permanently or placing a clear-bra type protection on the fender. I hope someone here on the forum can suggest a permanent solution...I paid a lot of $$ to fix the paint and I don't want to do it again.
Good luck.

RE: rear fender clearcoat
My 05 Deluxe had a piece of clear plastic under the passenger seat. It had yellow and looked like crap. It should not be too difficult to find a manufacture that would sell some sort of clear plastic to adhere to this.
My notion was that one might be able to attach a thin piece of suede or some such thing to the underside of the passenger seat.

Try Mike at Profinish (see info: https://www.hdforums.com/m_3010254/tm.htm). This 3M stuff is tough and is used on cars and bikes. I just bought a piece from him to put on my rear fender so that the passenger pillion does not mar the paint. I have not put it on yet, but be sure to get the instructions from Mike's website and follow them to get a good job.
