Factory Ordered Chrome Swing Arm vs. Chroming The Original One...
OK, I’m looking for the ‘Pro’s’ and ‘Con’s’ and opinions on what’s the way to go and are there any differences in the end product.
I’m going to put on a chrome swing arm on my 07’Fatboy, the question/dilemma is (based on two options I have so far):
1) Have a local shop (non HD Shop) take one of their ‘stock’ swing arms and chrome it and then do a swap with my black swing arm (Now I don’t have a Harley Davidson swing arm, does this make any difference?!?!?) (Total price ~$750 installed by the local shop)
2) Buy a Harley Davidson Factory ordered chrome swing arm and have the dealer install that one (this gives me my original swing arm as a paper weight) (Total price ~$1100 installed by HD)
The local HD Dealer tells me that the chrome on the ‘Harley Davidson Factory ordered chrome swing arm will be more ‘clear’ and ‘more chrome’ looking and that chroming the original black swing arm turns out with a bit of a ‘blue’ tint (I forget which one was the one with the 'blue tine', but I think it was the after market chromed one).
Now, beside the price, are there any other considerations? Why would I spend the extra $300 - $400 on a HD Factory chromed swing arm, not to mention; what the heck do I do with the original swing arm. Comments/suggestions please….
Please keep in mind that I'm in Canada and I can not do the work myself, thanks!
P.S. I’m leaning towards going the HD Factory Order route, due to the fact of the ‘better’ chrome and also to keep the swing arm ‘HD’… am I crazy for paying the extra?!?

heres some info for ya from chromemasters.com
We Triple Plate all of our parts!
We Triple Plate all of our parts!
Copper-Nickel-Chrome
To insure show quality plating, our parts are finished using the following procedures:
•First the parts are stripped of any coatings-paints-old plating etc..
•After stripping, the parts will receive the first initial polish.
•After the initial polishing the parts receive acid copper plating. This is a very important step, this provides a very good base for the nickel to adhere to and allows us to remove flaws in the part by copper buffing.
•In this step the parts are returned to the polishing Dept. for another round with the polishers ( that's right - polished twice!).
•Only after Copper buffing are the parts ready to Nickel and Chrome plate.

Shipping from Canada will be a killer.....
But, Why can't you do the work yourself? I thought the same thing when I got my 03..I paid a shop to change out my slip-on's the first time...[:@] I got a manual, read up, enlisted the help of a friend the first couple times, and now there nothing I won't try to do myself....
