changing gears without clutch?

The same bike taught me to use clutchless changes, but only from fourth into top gear. The failure rate when using the clutch was awful and clutchless was the only way to reliably get fifth.
I rode my Glide the same way for a while, but found it rewarded me better when using the clutch for all changes.

haha 3 year old resurrected thread.. love it.
okay so i'll bite.. I've never done it, i always think something is going to explode if i don't do it right, and the "right" way that i was taught so it's imprinted in to my brain is to pull the clutch in, switch gears, give it some gas, release the clutch.. though i've always had a thought in my brain like "Hmm that's weird i see people working on bikes shifting without the clutch"..but i guess it's different if the engine isn't doing 3500+ rpms when it happens

I did it about 50% of the time on my sport bikes. It's more smooth with the clutch tho, so it depends if you're mid corner or straight line. I did it instinctively on the harley when i first got it, but I've since not done it. I've accidently done it up and down and it appears to take it just fine.
I will not be making a habit of it.
