I ride everywhere with music. I don't personally use an I-Pod, because I don't like having to pay $.99 per song.

The stubborn husband of a lady I work with had the same reply when he got an iPod for Christmas few years ago.
He would never even try to use it. I now own his 300.00 iPod for $100.00...I have almost 4,000 songs and a couple audio books on mine, and heck no I didn't pay .99 per song...all you have to do is load or "rip" your own CDs to iTunes, then transfer to iPod. Very simple.
And yep, I do enjoy riding sometimes with my Pod, mines "old school" black and white too.

I have the middle Ipod Nano. I use buds by "SkullCandy." They're nice and they have volume control on the chord so it's easier to adjust your sound level with gloves.

I ride with my mp3 player and Shure E3C in-ear monitors all the time. It's awesome, and I highly recommend it. Much better to listen to music at a safe volume than wind noise at a deafening volume!
Cheers!

I have experimented with numerous setups, and the in-ear monitors are the way to go. I wear a half-helmet behind a windshield and still get air-noise accross my ears. Wearing my earbuds and an iPod Nano makes every journey memorable, and makes the air-noise go away.
You'll still hear car horns & sirens.
Being 50+ years old now, my ears aren't what they use to be; my eyes do most of the work along with a well-adjusted set of mirrors.
Even without tunes playing, my naked ears cannot hear very much of the typical traffic around me because of V&H BSS pipes, and quieter vehicles these days (stuffed with whimpy motors).
