Bikenator...good post. I've always used my tach; My wife and I love twisties, and I've learned from the tach just how far (RPM -wise) to take the bike into a turn for max acceleration out of the turn. Sure is fun doing that. We both love it. It also helps so one doesn't lug the motor. I've 'heard' so many people doing that.....30 MPH in 3rd or 4th gear...no way. I want my engine to last a long time ('07 96 cu ).

With the kind of TORQUE these machines have, there is no need of a tach. How often you think you are going to red line the damn thing?

I love my tach. Damn glad I installed it, even though it was so damn expensive.

Now I never lugg the sucker, and I used to do that alot. Tells me exactly when to shift etc etc.

I don't have a lot of experience, so for me it's great. Oh, and I like the looks of it alot better than the stock setup. And, it's alot brighter.

That looks pretty sick. Does the new tach have a functional clock feature?

Mine doesn't. That's the only pain about the new tach. Anyhow, I added one of those round clock things to the stem nut thing. Looks ok, but i'd prefer to have it on the readout; like on the stock one.

And yeah, that black tach looks kinda nice. Especially with the black consol under it.

I think a tach is a very useful item. If you think you know where redline is by ear, you are 1 in a 100.
Using the rev limiter just isn't something I would rely on, that is as long as you like your valve stems straight.

I just hated being clueless to what my RPM was. I knew when to shift, but damn I needed to know exactly what RPM I was at. :shrugs:

A tach probably isn't all that necessary on a Harley but I like the idea of being able to see what the engine is doing.
Besides I needed a new set of bars and the best ones I could come up with "for me" are the HD Bombay bars and they have a built in tach housing. So I needed to put something in there, why not a tach?

When I put the tank back on the speedo will be higher up and closer to the tach, I just have a few more "goodies" to put on. Supposed to get more snow this weekend, so I guess I still have time, damn-it.
