MPG question

RE: MPG question
I usually fill up between 140-150 miles on my 06 Heritage (carb). The other day I hit reserve for the first time in 5K miles at 162 miles.
THought mileage would be better, but I do run an S&S carb that I installed w/ less thn 200 miles on the bike; so I really don't know what I got when stock. Ido know I lost considerable MPG (40 miles per tank) on my last bike when switching from stock to an S&S.

RE: MPG question
I'd be pretty happy if there was a way to REMOVE the useless fuel gauge and replace the hole with a nice chrome same-height insert. I use the trip odometer and common sense. My mileage can vary quite a bit, but I don't think I'll ever have have to be pushing my ride to a gas pump after 140-160 miles.
There are some threads that will walk you through a re-calebration of the interior float arm (similar to bending your toilet tank float for more or less water), but again, not something I look at unless I'm wanting to gripe about behind the glass condensation. That guage and the speedo are driving me nuts. Both "normal".

Great minds think alike.I had a thread going last week trying to figure out how to get rid of the stock fuel gauge and just install a regular cap. Not only is ituseless for its function but its so damn ugly also [:@](IMO).

RE: MPG question
I can get to about 220 before I start to get nervous.
Even with the V&H and the DynoJet I still get around 50 MPG.
When I drive to work... more like 40 MPG. But I fill up every day on my way home when that is the case.
When we went to The Dragon I was getting about 50 MPG all along the Blue Ridge Pkwy. But... since one of the guys we ride with had a sportster we were stopping every 90-110 miles.
