I bought a set of Samson BG3 Big Swoopies. They've been on my bike for about 6 months and I'm very satisfied with them. I'd buy them again today.

I agree with the comments about the Big Gun 3s. They're the latest generation of Samson exhaust systems. They have welded on heat shields and come with baffles. Deep, throaty sound. Loud, but not obnoxiously so. I think you'll be happy with them.

P.S.- Your dealer sounds like a typical "If we don't carry it, it has to be junk" weasel. [sm=icon_blah.gif]

I had Samson's on my last bike and they were great. some of the best looking pipes out there and they definitely have their own unique deep sound. The dealers are all the same if you don't want SE or V/H they think you're an idiot. Don't listen to them Samson pipes are money.

Have Big Gun Shorties with small baffles on my 883 Custom since 2004. They sound great - the bike sounds alot "bigger" than it is. No problems to report.

I'm considering Samsonbig guns 3 Cannonsvs. V&H Big shot longs. V&H claims 9-10 hp increase with the big shot longs. Has anyone seen any info on the samson and HP increase or heaven forbid decrease?

Thanks!

I believe that Vance and hines makes a better product then Samson. I have heard it more times than I want to about the welds breaking on the Samson pipes and that the pipes are not that good. I know no one wants to hear it and every owner thinks what they bought is the best and you have every right to feel that way its your money. In the case of the true duels i stayed away from the Samson and did not change my exhaust until this year in fact only about a month ago when I seen the Vance & Hines true duels. Only out three months and over 4000 sets sold as I was told by the people at V&H the pipes are always back ordered and I believe that now that the Vance and hines duels are out sampson sales will drop off quite a bit in this area. As long as your happy with your purchase that's all that counts no matter what any one said. One thing I can say from calling Samson a few times with questions they got one guy who answers them and well if I had to count on him I would not buy any think from them. If he is not around no one else can answer your questions? what's up with that and when you do get an answer your scratching your head like what. any way its opinion and that's all it is all the guys with Samson will say yea Samson and all the guys with Vance and hines will say yea V&H in the end you have to do your homework and make a wise decision good luck

I had V&H bigshot longs and now have Samson True Dauls and I prefer Samson's exhaust tone over V&H. They are both loud but the V&H have some kind of weird tone I could not get over. I just bought quiet baffles for them if my wife might wants them on her Deluxe ... will see then if the that tone goes away.

Also, if you are want true duals, I do believe V&H will NOT work with passenger footboards ... Samson's do.

I think the key to your whole statement is in the first sentence. "I have heard." Well, I've heard lots of crap over the years, but that doesn't make it true. I've done a search of this whole site and couldn't find one single example of this "heard it more times than I want" phenomenon of Samson heat shield welds breaking. So, either what you've heard is bullshit or you have a bunch of unlucky friends that don't have access to the Internet. The fact is, if this was a problem, people would be raising hell about it and it would be common knowledge on the boards. It isn't. And what does "not that good" mean exactly? Is it the all stainless steel construction? Is it the fact that you don't have to strap on the heat shields with hose clamps like the V&H pipes? Is it that everyone and his brother doesn't have them on their bike? One of the very reasons I went with Samsons is I didn't want to ride up and have 6 other guys with the same pipes on their bikes as mine. I'm glad Samson isn't the most popular brand!

And while we're on the topic of popularity, popularity doesn't automatically equal "better." It just means more popular and a LOT of factors influence this. In the case of V&H, the simple fact that many H-D dealers carry and sell them naturally has a big influence on their sales. This is NOT, however, some kind of proof that they're better. It's proof they sell more, period.

V&H makes a good product and if someone has them on their bike, I'm sure they're satisfied with them, but I don't understand some who beyond extolling "their" brand then feel the need to badmouth its competitors with unsubstantiated claims.

I agree with XT here. I also "heard" how I shouldn't run Samson pipes, mainly from the dealer and a few buds. But I went ahead and ordered a set of BG2Slashers for my old 2004 1200C. Long story short the pipes were banging off my footpeg (this was the first year for the rubber mounted engine on the sporty), my pipe cracked and my bike obviously started backfiring like a ****. Delaer wouldn't do ANYTHING for me (bought the pipes from them). Called Samson told 'em about what happened and they sent a brand new set of BG2 Ripsaws directly to me. Put 'em on and they were flat out awesome pipes. Went with V/H on my Deuce and they are good pipes too but there's just something about the Samsons looks and sound that makes me love them. They are good pipes.
