If that's the bike you want, I'd say buy it. The mileage is nothing and you know better than anyone what you're looking for in a bike. Everyone I've ever spoken to has told me these motors are good for 100k miles, AT LEAST, if taken care of. If you're anything like everyone else, way before you have that many miles on it, you'll be slapping an upgrade kit or the latest and greatest new motor in there anyway. I sold my Sportster about 3 months ago with 22k miles on it to the 1st person that saw it...he never flinched. Buy that thing!!! You'll never regret it and besides, you're wasting good riding weather trying to decide

I've got over 18,000 touring miles on my '06, with all maintenance done by a respected local indy, meticulously maintained in every way. People's reaction upon first seeing it is usually: "Don't you ever ride that thing?"
The miles are nothing if the bike has been properly -- verifiably -- maintained. I wouldn't let that worry you. Check out the guy's garage if you can -- that'll tell you a lot about the condition of the bike.
With respect to price, if the bike is unique -- and that one looks unique with it's nostalgic paint job -- I wouldn't worry about going $1500-$2000 high. Believe me, the first time someone compliments you on the bike it'll be worth every penny, especially if you plan to keep it a few years.
Just my 2 cents.

Any time I see a newer vehicle with fresh paint I get paranoid. I wonder if it was wrecked. In our state at least, if it wasn’t totaled it still has a clean title. I know – some people just like custom paint but I still wonder.
