I never was dissatisfied with the rear suspension on the softail, but the stock forks sucked, they would jar your fillings loose........the invertedfront end fixed that; smooth as silk now and much more stable.

I have heard that 08 is the last year of the Wide Glide in fact they are only building like 2000 of them all in the Duracell color ONLY I found the Wide Glide I rented back in 05 harder to manuever with those apes than a Fat Boy or my Heritage (or even my V-Rod) but it did like the look and the "shakey engine" thing...

wideglides look good. The link to the article in the above posts seems to suggest they are lacking in the comfort dept though. Heres a good article on the 07 FXSTC.

tmitchellofpg...how do you like those rip saws. I'm looking into some pipes and like the rip saws and jug huggers.
Mine are the Samson II, Rip Saws. Samson doesn'tmake baffles for them, so they are basically 1 3/4" drag pipes. They now have Samson III, Rip Saws, that I think come with baffles. Mine are extremely loud, the SE 103" engine probably makes them sound louder, then if they were on a 88" or 96".
The bike runs great, with them and the fit and finish is excellent. I just put in some universal drag pipe baffles and wrapped them witha thin layer of Moose muffler packing (fiberglass). This brought the sound level down to just loud, instead of outrageously loud. I am a lot happier with them now.

I think the Wide Glide is more comfortable and look at the forks. The Wide Glide forks are huge compared to the wimpy forks on the Softail Custom. The Wide Glide come with fat handlebars with internal wires too. Wide Glide all the way.

No Baffles for the III either..

I felt off balance with the forward controls, thats what made me go with the Heritage

I would say Wideglide, havimg owned an 05. Its a good handling bike and you really feel the bike under you. I liked the shaking engine, it felt cool. I kinda miss that on the fatty. Its your decision though..

Aren't they both 41mm tubes?
