The springer definitely adds character to the bike, and some noise. I get chatter from the springs at certain engine RPM. But everybody asks about the springer and admires it. I haven't got any real seat time with standard forks but other than very bad roads, I like the springer. Oh yeah, it is harder to get parts for the springer, like rotors, all of the rotors I like are not for the springer.
The Springer looks great, but rides way different than tubes. Took awhile to get use to coming from a FXSTC. Corners great though.

I bought mine cause no one will ever mistake it for a grinder. It shouts I am a Harley to the world!

Springers look good, but make a lot of noise, if you're a nervous nelly I'd stay away. Plus they run an old school (evo era) caliper.

I started with a springer with my first bike in 1959 and 7 bikes later, still with a springer.
It "IS" Harley if you ask me, right along with the sound.

You'll not see a metric or other import with a springer.

IMO: You'll not get the "wobble" as with a geometricly unstable tube front end.

This question has come up a number of times before. Personally I do not think there's any disadvantage to the springer front end under normal use. Maybe it has it's limitations but not for my style of riding. I've owned both and the only difference to me is the feel as it hopes along the bumps in the road. I'm not sure how to describe it but it feels more pronounced when there's uneven pavement then conventional forks. But these forks are very refined and I would never claim it is 'bumpy' or 'shaky'. It's very smooth actually. The short springs and short travel is what gives it the quick, bobbing feel. Two years of ownership and about 14k and I couldn't be happier. I'm sure if you do a search you'll find a few threads from the past with more opinions.

Aftermarket springer forks listed under "Front Forks": http://www.paughco.com/2003_catalog/catalog_index.htm

I dont have an FX Springer, but it handles BETTER than my sporty, I can corner really well & it absorbs the bumps way beter than I though it would I LOVE IT, plus nothing looks more bad *** than a springer front end

I love the Springer front end.
If you want stopping power, use the Jaybrake 4 piston or the PM 4 piston. Incredible difference. Especially with Lyndall pads.
And those who say the bike handles bad or makes noise need to check their bushings, shock, springs etc....

I will guaranteeI can stay in the corners with the best of 'em.

And you can get as many rotors as any other bikes out there... Take a look.

It's like the rack and pinion of front ends.

It is the staple of what personifies the Harley D.

There is a reason it is still here today

Once you taste it nothing will ever be quite the same!

Herr Monk, what Springer are you guys thinking of running, the stock type? Where are you gonna get one from? The market for these is outrageous right now. Some guys are getting over $1k for a stock frontend.
Some decent deals can be found on E-Bay, if I were gonna replace my front end it would be with this one although it is kinda spendy ...
