.....and sometimes Ebay does not work out so well..
I bought a set of chrome Harley inverted forks from a HD dealer in Maine off of a Ebay auction last week. I spent last night installing the forks, and they looked great, and were a breeze to install........until I got to the axle. I bought the 25mm axle kit for the '07, but it was waaaay too large for the bore on the fork leg.The seller listed the forks as havingHD p/n 46321-05B, which would have made them the latest version of the forks, andcompatible with an '07. As it turns out the axle bore was 3/4", so the part number was probably46321-05 without the "b" update. Milling the axle leg to accept the 25mm axle was not a viable solution, and the bearings in the '07 wheel are much thinner than their '06 counterparts, though the diameter was the same, so swapping the bearings for an '06 set wouldn't work. My only option was to buy a replacement front wheel with the '06 bearing configuration for the 3/4" axle. The parts guys at my local dealer were sympathetic and looked in the warehouse and found a new '06 take off smooth "profile" spokedwheel that they let me have pretty reasonably......props to them! A new set of chrome wheel spacers for the '06 wheel and I was in business. I still got a pretty good deal, but not nearas good as I had hoped.
Ebay deal (complete inverted fork kit): $475
new take off smooth spoked wheel w/ bearings from my dealer buds: $250
Chrome spacers: $30.00
total: $755
Lots less than a new set would have been, but not near as sweet a deal as I thought I had
