Default new rear brake pads really dragging! FIXED

Just did front and back pads, rebuilt both calipers, and replaced rear master cylinder. Problem is rear pads are dragging on the rotor real bad. And rotor gets incredibly hot in two minutes of riding around the block. I pulled the caliper off, I can move the piston in by hand. Pads are wearing even and flat. What could the problem be????? This sucks!!!!

I just had mine looked at after the rubbing was noticeable when backing up without the engine running.

The tech had a look and said it's perfectly normal, which I am not convinced is true. he said as long as it is wearing even, it is the way it should be. I left not convinced and will follow this thread for updates or thoughts from the senior riders.

The caliper slides back and forth on the mounting bolts...........remove them ,clean them ,and grease them..........then it will not bind and release easier

Agree with you. Brake pads should not get them hot. Mine do not get hot as I checked a while ago.

the mounting pins are clean and lubed. The pads seem very tight on those metalmounting tabsyou use. I check everything again today. That wire retainer is on right too. No way are the pads supposed to get that hot.

If the bike rolls easily in neutral, I don't see how it could be that hot. If it rolls easily in neutral, I'd probably drive it hotfor a while to see if itwon't start cooling off. If there's not any drag, I don't know what else it could be.

Are they the exact same pads that came off it?

Have you pushed the bike with it in neutral. Standing beside it, getting it to where it is slowly "coasting" on it's own very slowly, getting a really good "feel" if there's a bind?

Yeah there is a lot of drag pushing it in neutral, the pad are a quality brand but I forgot the name. The front doesn't drag at all.

sometimes You have to remove the caliper pistons and clean them , then lube all the moving parts with brake fluid...sounds like the pistons binding.

+1

If your sure the pads are the right ones (not thick than called for for your bike), it's gotta be a stuck piston. They've got to be reallyclean ,except for the fluid..(surgically?), any foreign matter at all, thatyou may not even see,can bind one
