Default How to wire a GPS on an '07 Softail Deluxe

Is anyone able to give me some guidance on how to run the wiring for my Zumo 550? Where should I connect to and what's be best route for wiring. Should I lift the gastank and run the wires under it? If so, how do I loosen the tank? Any help is certainly appreciated!

GPS?? Just wet your finger and follow the direction of the wind....

Actually, lifting the tank is easy. Just loosen the front bolt and Acorn nut and remove the screw at the other end where the seat rests on the tank. You will have to remove the seat first.

I think I would look into the wiring adapter HD PN#70270-04.

It may work great now but the wiring and fuse used for those type of lights is not made for addtional load usually. Not sure what the harness is that was mentioned above but it's usually better to wire things like that separatly right to the battery with a fuse.

Good luck with finding your way around !!!

When I wired mine up on my Heritage, I tapped into the "accessory" curcuit, which is the orange wire with a white tracer in the harness under the seat. No worries about overloading the circuit... it is a 15amp circuit, and from the factory the only thing on it is the intrument lighting, odometer, and front fender light on the Heritage. The Zumo pulls very little power - maybe 1 amp. You can also use the HD wiring adapter as suggested above, but the line that taps into is hot all of the time (which means you have to manually turn off the Zumo every time you stop), where the accessory circuit switches off with the ignition switch. I also lifted the tank so I could route the wiring right and zip tie it in place. Brought the end out under the bars to the Zumo mount. When you take the mount off you don't even notice the wire. Lifting the tank is a bit of pain but not too bad if you take your time. Good Luck!
