My dad and I took a similar ride a few years back, 2,200 miles. We never plotted a course or scheduled any stops and IMO that's the way to do it! Ride until you want to stop... then stop... seeing everything along the way! Some days we only rode 100 miles. Of the 2,200 miles only 10 of those were on a highway and that's only because the road we were on actually ended and put us on the highway. We made it a point to stay on secondary roads and enjoy the scenery. We both talk about it all the time and I look forward to the next one.
