Default Autometer tachometer install

I have a 2004 HD Softail carb bike. I want to install a Autometer tachometer. Without screwing up the electrics, which wire (color) on the coil do I attach the green wire off the tach to, which wire off the ignition switch do I attach the red power wire from the tach to, and does the brown wire on the tach need to be cut? Is a 2004 HD Softail 1 pulse or 2 pulse ignition? thanks anyone

Default RE: Autometer tachometer install

I was able to install this tach with some internet work. Auto Meter was uninformed that our friends at HD had made changes removing the RPM (pink wire lead) from the wiring harness. I have contacted AM and am presently sending them info on what they need to tell their customers to install their tachs on 2004 or later bikes. A cheap $.95 part from HD # 74196-04 is needed and the info on how to remove wires from the speedometer connector. This info is in the 2004 Softail workshop manual from HD. Anyone who needs help on this install can email me. kimchek@vci.net

The link provided to the DIY section is for a fuel injected bike. Carburated bikes have an ICM not an ECM.
