Onmy TC88B, both the owners and service manuals say to use 26 oz of fluid in the primary. Unless I am adjusting the clutch, I always fill the primary thru the inspection cover. Just use a measuring cup, fill it to the 26 oz mark and dump it in using a small, long barrelledfunnel I bought ateither WalMart or Autozone. Hell, I may have bought it at Alco...Doesn't matter where you get it...It's about a buck.I can'tsee spending that much on a derby gasket if I don't have to.

I'll be doing myfluid change (all three holes) in about 300-400 miles and I will use the inspection cover. Never thought about doing it that way, but seems like it would be easier.

I've taken off the derby cover several times between 5K interval services to check the oil level with the new large round pancake style derby gasket without replacing the gasket and there's no leaks. I only put a new gasket on at the 5K interval service.

I guess the newer 07's darby cover is different in that it uses a captive O-ring type gasket.
Very easy to get off and on again. But then we don't have an inspection cover so its a trade off.

I was wondering why the gasket cost $16.00!!! My 06 uses the black disc style and is very inexpensive. My dealer even gave me one, so I know they are not too expensive.

I have a pump that I bought at W-Martto fill the lower uniton my Merc outboard motor. I use it to fill the primary and the transmission on my 2003 Heritage. I just look at the graduated lines on the container as I'm filling. The pump will screw directly to anyplastic oil container and it has a hose that will fit into the inspectionhole or the transmission fill hole. It costs about 15 bucks and doesn't make a mess. Well thats my 2 cents. I'm going ridin.
