I had it & after a few things that I needed replaced (All cosmetic) that were fought tooth & nail by the stealer ( I had the black paint fall off my oil tank, which looked like crap& I show my bike so it had to be dealt with ) I finally called Milwaukee & they covered it, but it sucked! I turned it in & got that $2000 subtracted from my total it was credited abck tot he bank i financed the bike from which was cool, Havent looked back since

 

I agree with IMBODEN, buy a service Manuel (check e-bay first) and My bike hasalways had synthetic in bike but after my 1000 mile service I changed over to a 5 MICRON oil filter, its the premium one by HARLEY, buy the oil plug gaskets, Tranny plug gasket, get the good filter wrench, and at 1800 miles I went with MOBIL ONE for 'V' TWINS, and MOBIL ONE TRANNY OIL 75w 90w, I was having trouble finding neutral but now shifts like BUTTER! And save all your paper work for oil and filters for warranty matters, its fun and takes 45 minutes, and save $200.00 on a service call, and if there is something wrong with bike it will show it self before your 2 yr. un-limited miles you can rack up! GOOD LUCK!! PURPLE HAZE.

Not necessarily. My starter problem happened AFTER the 2 years expired, and it was the only problem I've had. And I ride my bike daily during riding season. She's about to hit 25000 miles. THe starter thing happened at around 22000 miles.

Have to agree with this. they don't offer the extended warranty out of the kindness of their hearts. It is ONLY to make more money. Not that that is a bad thing. You would be better off either putting more money down on the bike or put the cost of the warranty into the bank and let it sit an emergancy fund.

 

I bought it on my new '07 Heritage Classic. First Harley we have owned. We usually keep our cars for 6-8 years and buy the extended warranty. It has paid for itself on the cars. We will probably keep the Heritage for a long time and if we want another Harley, I guess we'll have two in the garage.

Anything ever goes wrong with it in the next 7 years. It gets fixed. Totally worth it.

 

Like Clammy, mine was offset by a lower loan rate, so it was a no brainer.

I'm one of those kind of people that "If I get the extended warrantee, i'm basicly guaranteeing myself I won't need it" But if I don't, sure as s#*t, i'm in for trouble.

 

Donk, "Totally worth it." will not be determined until the end of your warranty period.

The extended warranties that are offered by car, motorcycle, appliance, etc.dealers is simple gambling.

And, just like when you gamble at a casino, the odds are stacked against you. It's the only way HD can make money on these extended warranties.

Some will come out ahead, but more will not. Hence, HD makes profit.

Having said that, I would recommend the extended warranty for some people.

As we all know or should know, Harley repairs can get very expensive very quickly.

It's easy for a person with several thousand dollars in the bank to say; roll the dice, you probably won't need it.

But, if a major or even moderate repair, is a hardship, then it may be worth it.

The small amount added to a payment may be much easier to deal with than a large repair bill that may leave the bike down until the person saves up money for the repair.

Or, even worst, cause someone to sell their bike.

If an extended warranty keeps you riding, then it might be right for you.

It's still a bad bet, but one that might be necessary.

One more point and I will stop.

It's been my experience that vehicles with extended warranties sell faster, but not for much more money.

And since most people sell or trade after a few years, I still question the purchase of an extended warranty.

 

As stated in my earlier post on this subject, I'm very happy that I purchased my extended warranty. I purchased mine on my '03 Heritage. The first time I needed it was up in Canada on vacation. The bike was 2 days out of factory warranty, had 25K miles on it and burned up the starter and the main wiring harness. The bill to repair was $1350.00, my cost was $100.00. The second time I had to use it was last month, bike has 50K miles on it. The cam chain tensioners failed, wiped out the cams, lifters, cam bearings and oil pump. The bill to repair was $1200.00, my cost was $100.00. In my case it was well worth the money I spent on the warranty.I put a lot of miles on my bikes in short order, and I travel to many places. I wouldn't buy a bike without the warranty.

 

In the last 10 years I've had 6 bikes, so I'm buying/selling about every 18 to 24 months. So far I've not "lost" more money that I thought was reasonable, so an extended warranty just doesn't make sense to me at the moment.It all comes down to how long will you reasonably keepe bike and what type of price you get on the warranty.

A better example, I've also purchased 8 cars and trucks in the last 10 years (2 for my kids). And in each case I got an extended warranty. So far the total cost of extended warranties has come out about even on the costs we've had after the original warranty went out. In fact, the most recent work was on my wife's '03 GMC Envoy. The extended warranty was $800 when we bought the SUV in '03 and the original warranty is long gone. But the extended takes it to 85000 miles, and we've used it 3 times so far. Our original $800 expense has saved us over $4000 in repair bills. So the warranty was well worth it, and helped paythe bill on 3 other cars that have not needed work.

As for my '07 Heritage ... I'm not sure I'll keep it more than 2 years anyway, so an extended warranty wouldn't be worth it. A small part of me is thinking 2 seasons on the Heritage and then maybe get an Ultra or something else. But we'll play it by ear and see what happens in the summer of '09. I can always add the warranty right before the MoCo warranty expires. We'll see how much work has to be done.
