When in doubt, check the owner's manual. The book's tablesays upshift to 6th at 65mph. Leave 6th on the way back down at 60mph.

Going through my owner's manual tonight, I found tables 22 and 23 in the Operations Section of the book.
For 2008 Softails it does tell you upshift at 55mph from 5th to 6th. Downshift from 6th to 5th at 50mph. With that said, I think that reccomendation is crazy.
I have noticed that after upgrading things to Stage 1, I can get away with alot of upshifts and downshifts that are contra-indicated. In my own defense, here in flat Florida, shifting to 6th seems happiest at 65mph.
During downshifts in particular, it seems I can drop down in gears withoutas much forward G-force that use to remind me that I hadn't slowed enough for that selection. A real whoosh can be heard (now) from the exhaust which is a better indicator for me that I downshifted too soon.
Certainly anything any of us say onthe forumsshould have liberal amounts of common sense applied to it when stated as "Fact".
From here on out, I won't quote a manual without having it beside my keyboard. Again, I apoligize.
