When in doubt, check the owner's manual. The book's tablesays upshift to 6th at 65mph. Leave 6th on the way back down at 60mph.

I wouldn't worry about it much, just do what feels comfortable to you. On my bike I have often shifted into 6th at as low as 50 when getting up to speed wasn't an issue and I'm just doodeling along. But I have kept it in 3rd as high as 60+ when I need the juice tofit into traffic on one of the "big roads".
Before myengine was well broken in it would balk, buck, and threaten to jump out of the frame if I had it in6th around 55/60, and tried to accellerate. It REALLY didn't like it andreally let you know it.
Now that I have put over 4000 miles on it and its well any truely broken in it doesn't seem to do that as much or as bad anymore. I suspect it has less to do with the engine being completely broken in that it haswith it breaking me in. Over time I havelearned the bikes limits and just don'tstray outside them as often.

 

Love your Ultra Classic! My fiance is purchasing an 08 Electra Glide Classic (Black) today. I wonder if it hurts in the long runto ride 55-60 in 6th. Feels and sounds great to me, but wouldn't want to hurt the bike.

I normally shift into 6th at about 65-70 mph and down shift back into 5th at about 60-65 mph. That's what feels right for my bike. Right now it's completely stock, but I'm having pipes, air cleaner, and a Thundermax put on over the next couple weeks, so it could change.

 

I shift into 6th gear about 65-70 for regular excelleration. I'll shift into 6th at 80MPH if I'm really haulin ***. I've got the SEAC, V&H BSS, Dyno Tuned SERT.

 

Myowner's manualfor '07 FXSTC says upshift from 5th to 6th at 55 MPH, downshift at 50 MPH from6th to 5th. I do, works fine, no lugging, no noise. Has workedgreatfor the3500+ miles I've got on it. Bone stock bike (except for oil cooler.)

 

I'd say 55 is the bare minimum for 6th on a flat road. Even a slight uphill grade will make it lug at that speed in 6th.
