I just had my 10k done at the stealer, asked them to adjust the preload. What a difference a couple turns of the wrench do. I have longshots on my deluxe, before the adjustment while 2 up, we would scrape the heck out of them. Now, I can dive into right handers again. They said they tighten them all of the way, and then back them off slightly. You can do it yourself with a special tool and a lift. I bought the tool before my 10k, but didnt have my lift yet.

There are several posts, on this forum,on adjusting softail shocks. There is one that has a picture of 2 shocks one in the full soft setting and one in the full firm setting. I tried to find it but couldn't, maybe you will. Try a search on "adjusting shocks".
When you look at the shocks, there will be anywhere from 0 to 4 threads showing. The more threads showing the softer the shock is set. It is just the opposite of what you would assume. It is important that you adjust both shocks the same amount. You can buy a spanner wrench at the dealership for about $5. This will hold the main shock body from turning while you use an open end wrench to adjust the shock.
