2003 Heritage Softail - How do I turn teh engine by hand?
Hi Guys,
I'm doing some work and I need to find tdc. I'm bumping the rear wheel in 5th. That works OK, but I can't see what the valves are doing from there. Is there a cover I can remove to use a wrench to turn the crank? I checked the manual but nothing jumped out that said "turn here to rotate engine."
Thanks,

IMHO... Using the rear wheel with the spark plugs removed is the easiest method when doing an in-frame mod/repair.
When turning the rear wheel, it has always been easy for me on the rear cylinder, and harder to see on the front... sometimes I open the pushrod yubes and watch the movement of the pushrods... I think it's easy to tell when they are on the base circle.
I have never done it in-frame, but I guess you could pull the cam cover and use the crank sprocket bolt, or pull the primary and use the comp nut... After all, you need to block those sprockets to keep them form spinning when you remove or install them... I've just never turned the engine that way.
They do make crankshaft wrenches, to turn the crankshaft, if you have the compensator off the bike...
