Default Help needed with 2010 fatboy rear wheel

Hi, I removed my rear wheel, and brake caliper off to put new pads in as well as swap the wheels out to FB Lo wheels off the same year model (non abs)...

Well, for the life of me I can't get the rear wheel and caliper bracket back in place. No where even close?

I've read the manual and watched YouTube videos, but slipping that damn caliper bracket back in place with the wheel in just isn't happening....

Any advice or help would be great.

I assume your bike is also non abs? I know that abs and non abs bearings are not the same and require different width spacers. If you’re going from non abs to non abs, I’m not sure what it could be. Can the brake caliper bracket be installed before the wheel?

Yes, non ABS. Thanks.

I've watched all the videos that seen to say put the wheel in first and then slip the caliper bracket in....

I'm going to try installing the caliper and caliper bracket first, and then putting the wheel in, but there must doesn't seem to be enough room??

I’m not going to be much help. Hope you figure it out. Mine is a 2014, I believe I can remove the caliper from the bracket and install the caliper itself last, but your bike may be different. Good luck!

My 2001 softail has that one piece caliper and mount too.

I recently re-spoked my rear wheel, put in new brake pads, new tires, and put it all together....

As I remember, I put the caliper in place, then the wheel... but pretty sure the caliper could have gone in last too. Just a little jostling to get everything in place.

Everything ended up fitting OK in my case...

If something doesn't fit in your case, I suspect your issue may be with; spacers for the new wheel, sleeve spacer for the bearings for the new wheel, or you didn't install the rotor side wheel bearing first, as the primary bearing....

Did you check to see that the new wheels you used had the same hub size as the old wheels?

Thanks Hattitude,

I didn't check - I assumed that 2010 Fatboy Lo wheel would be a direct bolt on to a regular 2010 Fatboy?

I guess my main question is - will a fatboy lo wheel directly bolt onto a regular fatboy of the same model period (09 - '10)....

For some reason the fatboy lo rear wheel hub width seems significantly wider and maybe that's why I can't get it to fit my 2010 std Fatboy.

Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Try to put your old wheel on with the same process. If it works the other wheel don’t.

You should always check to make sure the hub widths are the same.. If they are, place the wheel in position but no axle or nothing.. Then work the caliper mount in so you can move the wheel around to get it in.. Once in position then you can slip the axle in to get everything mounted up.. again this is all assuming that the rims are compatible..
