The new bike
I'm sittin' here in Kuwait on my way stateside from a year in Iraq. I've got a little "chill" time so I thought I'd post about picking my bike up on leave. This is my first Harley Davidson. I've had the bug for a few years now and was finally able to get one. Once home for leave I had to wait about a week for the dealer to do the prep on my bike .[sm=confused06.gif] I practically had to beg them to bring it over to the store from thier warehouse where it'd been sitting. I do understand that July isn't the slowest month of the year for any shop and they had approximately 1 gazillion bikes outside the service department everytime I stopped in. That gave me time to work around the house and spend some "quality" time with my wife I hadn't seen for 10 months.
Okay... on to the scoot. It's just hard to put it into words even. Yeah the thing's hot. It wines, it clatters it's expensive, but man, it's a fockin' HARLEY! I managed to put about 600 miles on it in about 5 days. My Iraq counterpart Joe was home on leave with me at the same time. We romped around Indy and out down south with our wives and had a great time. My wife had never even ridden before and she was there for 90% of the riding I did. That was really cool, and I'm glad she enjoys riding like I do.
The Fatboy handles like a dream. In my opinion it's solid as a rock. I have no complaints about it. I did find myself using 6th on the interstate just because I had it, then down shifting because I didn't need it yet. For my setup I think I need to be above 65 to use 6th. That's just from my senses though. I know "to each their own", but I love having a heel/toe shifter too.
I opened this beast up a little bit with V&H BSS / Big Sucker I/ and T-MAX with AutoTune. Holy chit what a night and day difference that made. My friend Joe with the 89" Stroker Evo wasn't that impressed with the choked version of the 96". Now I think he's a little nervouse. Zippers was closed the Sunday I installed the ECM so I just used as close a map I could find. I'm pretty sure I picked the right one because this thing FLAT GETS down the road. Joe agrees and says the same thing. Thier's more in store for this motor, but honestly... I don't need anymore, anytime soon. Zippers is supposed to be coming out with their own 103" kit for the 96". I really like what Revolution Performance has to offer too. That's waaaaay off in the future though.
I did/do/will do all the mx myself on this bike for all the obvious reasons. I enjoy the hell out of it anyway.
None of these pics are completely current. I've got NCOES(school) to attend for a couple weeks then I'll be home for good. I'll post some more when I'm done with what I got .

RE: The new bike
Same here; from one vet to another- thanks for all you do and the hardships that go with that. Unless you're a vet, it is hard to apreciate the seperation from family.
Congrats on the Fatboy! You made a great choice. Same for your stage 1 stuff! If I had the coin, I'd get the TMax too. My FuelPak is serving its purpose and I can't believe how hard my FB will pull.
Stay in touch and best of luck with all your future endeavors!
