The rattle or knock is only audible to me after the bike warms up and the sound is coming directly from the compensator, indicating the compensator is defective. I don't know what else would becausing the noise.

Correct. If the bolt is torqued to spec and it still knocks, the spring pack is toast. New spring pack is required at the very minimum. In time, they will all need replacing.

My thoughts exactly, doesn't seem logical, especially with a new bike, that any other part other than the spring pack of the compensator would be bad.

This is quite normal to the 07 bikes. When first starting the compensator bottoms out and there is a loud knock noise. My 07 Heritage does it and so soes every other 2007 bike that I have heard!!! Now if I think it should never have been designed this was then of course I don't BUT don't worry it's more an annoyance than a problem with you bike .

I believe the noice your hearing is normal for Harley IV seen people move away from Harley cos they don't trust the start up noice and the kick it into first gear clunk but that's Harley Davidson and it's normal

There maybe a nut that's supposed to be lock tight in maybe it's been removed and put back in without lock tight is only thing I can think off .

You are responding to a post that is 17 years old.

Here`s a tip:

If someone posts a technical question, don`t just throw out a vague guess if you know nothing about the subject being discussed.
