V&H FuelPak Setting change that worked!
Hey Gang,
Notsure how manyfolks here have the V&H FuelPak (software version 12), I have been searching threads and trying to stay informed. There was some discussion about Mode 23 settings, and I found one that worked perfectly for me.
Less than 48 hours ago I had my stage 1 installed on the 08 FB. Since then, I have clocked 341 miles. At the recommended settings from V&H, and after personally verifying that my throttle-range readings were fine in Mode 21, I started re-tracing my favorate runs in flat Florida.
I was getting lots of gurggle and pops on the decel. Agreed- shorter pipes, and less back-pressure equals some normal gurgle and pops.
I then changed Mode 23 to a setting of 15. Pops and gurggle nearly gone!
The thread search results mentioned changing Mode 23 to one of two different settings. Folks have tried a setting of 50 and 15. V&H starts-off with a recommended setting of 16 for most configurations.
Mode 23 set to 50 didn't help me at all.
Mode 23 set to 15 made a BIG difference. Its been about 76 miles of running now with this setting, and I consider myself done with any further experiments.
Just thought I'd share with everyone.

Hey fatboy40ate,
Click on downloads after going here: http://www.fuelpakfi.com/harley1.html
On the "downloads" page, look fortheFuelPak Installation guide for the Softails. This will give you step by step lessons for"navigating" the FuelPak buttons.
[ol][*]Once you have access to the FuelPak buttons, turn the bike's start/stop handlebar switch to the start position.[*]Turn your ignition switch to on. (don't actually start the motorcycle).[*]You should see your FuelPak LEDs say: _1 _0[*]You are looking at mode 1, with a setting of zero. Start writing down each mode and value assigned.[*]Depress the mode button again, you should see _2 _0 (again write these values down)[*]Repeat pressing the mode button and keep writing down your values.[*]Soon, you'll be at mode 23. Most likely you'll see a value of 16.[*]The instructions will describe how to change values (this is VERY easy).[/ol]
Write back if you get confused or can't get the guide downloaded. Depending on YOUR stage 1 mod specifics, this value change may help. If changing Mode 23 to a vaule of 15 doesn't help, try setting it to a value of 50.
You can get all this checked faster than it took me to write this all down. It is very easy and user-friendly.

RE: V&H FuelPak Setting change that worked!
Just getting back from my lunch time ride, I made some additional observations now that I have gone to value 15 in Mode 23:
[ol][*]The happiest lack of popping is when your hand has let the throttle twist all the way back to zero. In other words- no twist at all. The slightest throttle advance will give you those awful pops when you down shift.[*]I didn't realize how much my hand keeps some throttle on. That FuelPak is very sensitive to your throttle input.[*]If I completly let go of the throttle and JUST downshift, I don't get much popping at all, just gurggles.[/ol]
Before you guys make any changes, be sure to try this yourself on existing settings so you have a good before/after comparison.
Regards!
