Fitment information for a 1997 Softail springer fxsts
Hey, I have a 97 FXSTS with an electronic speedo that does not work, nether the digital odometer or the speedo. What will fit? Will a take off from a newer bike 2016 work? I suspect one from older to newer would not because of the ecm but not sure going ecm to non ecm? Thanks
i could add a pic if that helps?

Nope. I'm sure they've changed a few things since then such as plugs, harnesses, etc. I have an 05 Springer and that seems to have been the cutoff year for the speedo I was looking at getting. Only worked from 2004 and earlier. Not sure what the earliest year might be in that range, but a 2016 is definitely not gonna work. I think they went can-bus by then. Someone else with more knowledge will chime in, but that's a quick jist of it. IMHO.

You will have to buy used, or I installed this one and gained a Tach. https://www.autometer.com/4-1-2-dire...pro-cycle.html

No but it’s not hard, and depends what you want it do.
I wanted the tach and the speedo/odo, and nothing else.
it has the capability to run turns and high beam but that was fine on my bike, just couldn’t read the odo anymore.
oh and the backlight of course, comes with wire diagram so just using a few, that’s actually my bike on the review for auto meter also a 97 Springer
