Default Fork spring spacers preload

My '23 Heritage has only 1/2" sag with me on it. I'm thinking of shortening the spacers. How much spring pressure is there when jacked up? I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to compress the spring readily after removing about 1/2" from the spacer.

It shouldn't be that bad. I've never had to struggle putting the caps back on. Just maintain downward pressure when starting the threads, and especially when taking them off. When the last thread disengages it will try and spring out a bit. Be careful, and wear your safety glasses.

Not sure about late model Softails, but on the touring bikes you do need a spring compressor to get the top cap installed after disassembly.

Rather than cut the spring spacers, you may be better served in the long run to upgrade the front forks with springs that lower the bike.

Yes,
I did a Freewheeler fork disassembly- a real bitch to get the end caps on.
If the softtail is that tough I'll let it go.
Thanks!

how many miles on your bike ? If its fairly new you may want to wait and let the suspension break in more .
