If by the speedo "goes dead" you have a loss of power... check the cables and your battery... also check the ground where it attaches to the frame near the front of the seat...

If the battery and cables check good, then I would inspect and clean your main rotary ignition switch..

If by the speedo "goes dead" you mean the MPH drops to zero.....

Have you noticed that your turn signals are not cancelling .....??

FWIW... Speedometer failing, and dying when you pull in the clutch to stop, are two of the three classic symptoms of a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor)... The turn signals not cancelling are the third...

You can pull it and try to clean it... If it has a bunch of metal filings on it, sometimes cleaning it works... but if the VSS is bad, it will need to be replaced. I hear it doesn't always throw a trouble code...

Another cause of stalling could be a dirty IAC (Idle Air Control).... but that won't affect the speedo...

Let us know what your find...

Another possibility of the stalling engine is your clutch and/or clutch cable could need adjustment. Plenty of youtube videos show the proper way to adjust those. It’s pretty simple and you don’t need any special tools.

EFI requires a higher idle then old carburetor motors just to keep a idle. However, you sound like you have more then one problem.

Could be a simple bad battery or connection at battery. Start there. Good fresh fuel?

If opening the throttle slightly helps the stall, it's usually fuel or a fuel filter. Is maintenance up to date? Bike stock or is a aftermarket tuner on it?

Does all the power cut out? I had bad ignition switch do this, when riding it probablly missed a beat and I didn't notice. But when coasting to stop it died.

Need to look at all that is going on. Head light out? Or just speedo losing signal?

Your speed sensor is going out.

Did the speedo stop, or did all the electic go dead is the question you have to ask.

I suspect it's the Speed sensor. Happened to me on my long run last year on my 2010 Softail Standard. Replacement cost $110 (Australian)and $110 For installation. Cheap!

Sometimes you can try cleaning the sensor. Sometimes when I have that area open, I will pull and clean it. But again, speedo stopped, or everything went dead?
