I always thought the wave (pointing down and to the left) was related to the same motion to point out an obstacle when group riding. Kinda like acknowledging the danger.

Of course, by that logic we shouldn't be waving at bikers, but cars.

some Dick who thinks he is to much of a bad *** does not return it you feel like a jerk.
I'm more likely to feel like he's a jerk.

I also take into consideration the general situation. For example, when a traffic light changes and everyone os busy shifting gears or holding their clutch eaiting to make a turn, I don't wave or expect to be waved. Except of course when I see someone on one of those bikes that make you sit like a constipated frog. I wave at them just to see what they do.

I think the wave is a good thing, helps to bond us together. I wave any anything on two wheels, including scooters (although they generally have no clue of why ;-)

I generally wave to all riders I pass. The one recent exception was when my wife and I were recently down inthe USon vacation, and wereheading up toward Missoula. The hordes were beginning to head to Mecca (aka Sturgis), and as about the 3000th bike of the day went by, I finally gave up. My arm was literally getting tired. (Though my beautiful wife told me she waved to them all for both of us from her mount...lol) As for waving only at other Harley riders...while Stateside I found that pretty easy; it seemed EVERYONE was on a Harley of some sort. This side of the Can/US border, there seems to be a lot more variety in ownership. Besides, with so many Harley clones out there nowadays, if you folks can tell a Fat Boy from a Road Star, from several hundred feet away, passing each other at 75 mph, you have better eyes than I do!! lol

My Thoughts exactly. Wave if you want, or don't. Who cares.
