'06 Deuce... Left the switch on. I tried to hook it up to my battery without turning the truck on. This seemed to help a little, but it didn't give it enough juice to turn over. Can I turn the truck on ('05 Dodge Ram) to expedite the process or will it fry something?

never tried it or heard anything about it, guess you don't have a charger huh?

 

Try pushing it in 2nd gear and dumping the clutch after you get rolling. Hang on when you do because it will jump. I'd go the charger route before risking blowing up all your electronics. Funny things happen when you jump vehicles and make a mistake somewhere along the line.

 

I haven't tried to jump my Harley, but I have jumped bikes from my truck before without a problem.
You just have to be really careful of the polarity just like any other vehicle.
But your best bet is still to use a decent trickle charger on it overnight.

BTW If it has electronic fuel injection and the battery is really down its not going to start by push starting it. Without enough electrical juice the ECM isn't going to work properly if at all.

 

i dont know the answer to your question because i have always used a battery charger. you can get them pretty cheap (under $50), and they will charge the battery all the way up

 

I jump started my 71 FLH and my Honda Shadow with my truck many times. Haven't killed the battery on the 07 yet so can't say I've tried it with a new bike.

 

12 vdc is 12 vdc. You must as stated watch poliarty make sure + is connected to + and - to - read idiot proof it. Wouldn't leave it connected long as now you will get into next part of trons and thats Amprage and I'm sure a trurk would pull a bit more than a bike.

 

I have jumped my 06 Deluxe with my Expedition in the past, no problems. Knock on wood. I did it pretty much how Geno said. It started right up and I disconnected right away. Good Luck

 

I've jumped plenty of bikes with cars. Just leave the car or truck turned off. If the car is running with its alternator charging it can overload your voltage regulator (or diodes on the alternator)on the bike. Yes, they are both 12V but the truck produces more amps. I have know people who fried their bikes electrics by jumping off a running car.

 

Just have the kids give you a good push and then just pop the old clutch [ with the key on ] Hopefully enough gas [ if fuel injected ] to get her started, then you should have elect power for the fuel pump once its running ! Unless of course the EFI system won't let it start this way.......I know on a carbed bike its EASY !......Once running, just ride it for about 20 miles to charge it up some..
