Aftermarket Speedometer not working
Hello,
recently purchased a Dakota Digital MCL-5100 for my 04 Softail. connected it up per the instructions and all works (turn signals, oil, high beams, neutral) except for the the speedometer. Before i go out and purchase a new VSS (speed sensor) was wondering if anyone has suggestion on how i should troubleshoot it beforehand?
what i did so far is turned the ignition to ON and tested the signal wire (green/white coming out of the ECU where i teed up my wire for the speedo) and i am getting 1.5V. (appears low to me, as i think it should be near 4-5V DC). any other testing i should do with my multiumeter to confirm it's a defective VSS?
(oh and yeah, i read all the posts on cleaning the end of the VSS magnet to remove debris.... didn't work)
thank you!

- When I purchased the motorcycle there was no Speedo. Before changing the speed sensor I was wondering what tests with my multimeter.
- I disconnected the original speed sensor and tried to get a reading at the plug when the ignition is set to ON but no success. so wondering if my problem is more than a speed sensor.
