Default 2002 deuce not starting

2002 deuce, running fine the night before and it wouldn’t start this morning. Lights go on but just has repeating clicking sound. Took the battery to parts store and they said it needed a charge. Charged it and tried again and now lights go on , no Clicking, but won’t crank. See video below. Thanks in advance for any help!

Check to see that both ends of the battery cables are clean and tight. You may need to purchase a new battery though.

Before you go and start spending money on parts you might not need, a proper diagnosis would be prudent.
The starting system has multiple components. Any of them could be the culprit.
Battery provides electricity to the whole circuit. The button on the handlebars activates the starter relay which relays the power to the starter motor.

Use a voltmeter to check the battery voltage while cranking. You can also measure the voltage on the starter cable.

If no power to starter, you need to trace the flow of power to find where it is interrupted. You can go upstream or downstream, your choice.
I do not have a wiring diagram for your specific year model so hopefully you have a repair manual. If not, you should get one for sure. Worth the $35 investment.

The solenoids are not infallible, they fail after a while. Buttons can get dirty but they do not fail that often. The starter is less likely to be the culprit, IMHO, but it still can fail as well.
And of course weak battery is not to be discounted either.

Let us know what you find!

My 2000 Softail showed exactly what your Deuce is doing last summer. Before I got into tracing circuits and wiring I took the advice of the HD Forum gurus to drop in a new battery. Got a 300amp from J&P and it’s been fine since last summer. Can’t say other issues could be the cause but if your battery is a few years old that might be a quick solution.

You mentioned the auto store said it needed a charge but after it was charged did they do a load test on it? It really does sound like your battery has **** the bed.
