RE: The Heat is Gone
That's good to know you can put a power commander on with stock pipes. I assume they must have maps for the stock setup? Do you notice any other changes with the stock setup other than reduced heat?
I will probably change my air cleaner (mostly for looks) but I don't want to change the pipes. Japanese sound inspection is very tough and stock pipes barely pass. I don't want to do anything to the bike I will have to undo at inspection time. Don't have room to store thestock pipes anyway if I changed them.

I drove my Fatboy for about 2 weeks bone stock, and you can just feel how lean the bikes are mapped stock. After I added the PC and bumped up my fuel 4% at closed throttle, my engine now runs overall SO much better. My engine can tolerate a lot more idleing in traffic than a stock bike. I also don't hear all that loud metal "tinging" noises right after I shut my bike down. Between switching to Mobil 1 oil, and the PC unprade, my engine runs perfect, and I good for 100,000 miles........

So how much money do you have to spend to make it so the 07 models can be ridden in traffic? Strange that Harley would sell a bike that can't be ridden on hot days or in stop and go traffic. It would be nice if the dealers would just tell people up front what to expect with the new bikes. For those of you that have the older models, you are lucky. Those that moved up to the 07 models got a big surprise.

The heat is just a comfort thing, as far as I know rideabilty is uneffected.
I have seen many pre 07's overheat in traffic, but I live in Texas.

RE: The Heat is Gone
I have to agree that the metal tinging is almost gone. I actually now have a usable 5th gear without all the chatter. The throttle is right there and the bike has get up and go. Power commander does have a map for stock pipes and air cleaner although I will be changing that as well. So how much to be able to ride it in the heat and in stop and go traffic?...approximately $1600 depending on what pipes you choose. After all the bs at the dealership about it not being "that" hot, why buy such a big engine, etc., I believe they should just tell you the truth that the bike cannot run well stock and give you the option to fix it immediately.
