Default Flush Mount (popup) Fuel Cap and Gauge Install

I was looking at the Chrome Flush Mount (Popup) FuelCap and Gauge set ($195 MSRP) and was wondering if anyone has intalled one. If so, how hard is it to do?

I just bought a set, I haven't installed it yet, but I got mine from Chicago Harley for 169 dollars.

Even if you have a hard time walking and chewinf gum you can knock this simple task out in 45 mins to 1 hour. Nothing to hard about it.

Install was easy ( i am NOT a mechanic) Directions are clear and straight forward. Took me about an hour, taking my time.

Only problem I have is after 3 months, the leds on the fuel gauge started going out. Now have 4 not working...I am not happy about this.

I read several posts where water was getting inside the tank with the flush mount set. Has this improved? id love to have a set too, just kinda got spooked with the water issues.

I have a set installed and as far as the water thing goes. The rubber seal around the gas cap is recessed a little so that allows a small amount of water to settle on top of that seal when you wash your bike. If you blow the water out with a leaf blower or a compressor after you wash the bike or just go for a ride you shouldn't have a problem. If you wash the bike then open the gas cap immediatelyyou will probably see a small amount of water. I use a leaf blower to dry the bike and haven't had any problem with water.

Thanks for the info. They really do look slick.....if the water problem is as minor as that, looks like I may be installing a set soon.

I am guessing that even though this post was back in 2007, others like me know that these are pieces of crap. Mine lasted about 2 months. Now only the fuel pump icon lights up and one light blinks constantly. When turning on the ignition, all the lights light up once. Then only one blinks. What a piece of crap.
